Promoted by the Vargas Llosa Chair, which will be held from September 23 to 26 under the motto \u201cScreens and Literature\u201d, at the Extremadura Film Library and the Capitol Theatre, with free admission until capacity is reached. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Councilor for Culture, Jorge Su\u00e1rez, participated in the presentation of the festival, together with the Secretary General of Culture of the Government of Extremadura, Jos\u00e9 Luis Gil Soto; and the director of the Vargas Llosa Chair, Ra\u00fal Tola, \u201cfor C\u00e1ceres it is a huge satisfaction to host Escribidores, a literary festival that already has a clear international dimension and that brings together some of the main writers and intellectuals of our time,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled that the Mario Vargas Llosa Chair launched this festival in 2023 in Malaga &#8220;and, after its expansion to Mexico City and Quito, the Spanish edition is now based in C\u00e1ceres.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Su\u00e1rez, \u201cthe fact that a cultural project of this international scope has chosen C\u00e1ceres as its venue is magnificent news for our city. And it is because it demonstrates that C\u00e1ceres not only has an exceptional historical heritage, as we can see throughout this weekend with Heritage Nights, but also wants to be recognized as a city that transforms and is transformed by culture, thought, creation, and the encounter that Escribidores offers us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, he added, &#8220;it arrives at a particularly important time for us. We are working to make C\u00e1ceres the European Capital of Culture in 2031, and events like this help us demonstrate that we have the capacity to host great cultural proposals, to connect with the world and, above all, to make culture a fundamental part of our city project.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Su\u00e1rez thanked the Government of Extremadura and the Mario Vargas Llosa Chair for their commitment to C\u00e1ceres &#8220;and I want to welcome all the writers, intellectuals and participants who are going to turn our city, during these days, into a great space for literature and thought.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;C\u00e1ceres is culture. C\u00e1ceres continues to grow as a cultural city. And &#8216;Escribidores&#8217; is a magnificent opportunity to demonstrate it. Culture is the path,&#8221; Su\u00e1rez stressed.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gil Soto highlighted the commitment of the Regional Government of Extremadura to collaborating with the Vargas Llosa Chair, \u201cand last year C\u00e1ceres hosted the Vargas Llosa Biennial for the first time outside the American continent, and now for the first time \u2018Writers\u2019 will be held in Extremadura. This means incorporating Extremadura into literary circuits with enormous reach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Literature has never lived in isolation, and it still does not live in isolation,&#8221; he stated, &#8220;to be represented in a theater or in a more modern way with the cinema or the series that are so successful, a text or a script is always needed and in many cases the literary work is the origin of that script. The media changes but an ancient human need remains, for someone to tell us a story and to be able to receive it in the different media that we have today.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will have highly prestigious voices &#8220;and there will be names from our land such as Inma Rubiales, who is triumphing among young people and we are committed to promoting reading among young people; Jes\u00fas Carrasco and the memory of Dulce Chac\u00f3n.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tola has highlighted that &#8220;with this festival we expand our relationship with Extremadura. It lands in C\u00e1ceres to be a meeting point where two of the most vigorous literary and cultural traditions of our time coincide, dialogue and are recognized. We have dedicated this edition to the apparently tense and distant relationship between literature and screens. And we also want to talk about screens as a narrative support.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that \u201cwe have designed three lines of work: young adult literature, which is very fashionable at the moment and a great breeding ground for readers; conventional literature; and audiovisual productions.
