The University of Extremadura (UEx) Joins the Manifesto of Support for Cáceres’ 2031

  • The signing of the manifestowas formalized today at the Rector’s Office

The University of Extremadura (UEx) formalized on Wednesday its support for Cáceres’ candidacy as European Capital of Culture in 2031, at an event held at the Rector’s Office on the Cáceres campus, attended by the city’s mayor, Rafa Mateos, and the rector, Pedro Fernández Salguero.

With this signature, the academic institution officially joins the broad social, cultural, and institutional movement that supports the designation of Cáceres as European Capital of Culture in 2031, reaffirming its commitment to the cultural, scientific, and educational development of the city and the region.

During the event, both entities highlighted the importance of collaboration between the University and the City Council on strategic projects that strengthen Cáceres’ international presence and encourage the active participation of the university community in cultural initiatives linked to the bid.

“We are talking about a collective project, an ambitious project, and one that must have strong allies. And what better ally than the University of Extremadura?” explained Rafa Mateos, who thanked the institution for its support from the outset.

The University of Extremadura’s endorsement reinforces the institutional support for Cáceres 2031, a project that seeks to position the city as a European benchmark for culture, sustainability, and social innovation. It is worth noting that last week, several European universities joined the bid to become European Capital of Culture within the framework of the EU Green Alliance. In fact, the rector of Extremadura himself, the current president of this Alliance, has been the one who has fostered the development of joint projects between the Cáceres bid and the EU Green Alliance.

“It is an honor to contribute to make Cáceres become the European Capital of Culture in 2031,” said the rector, who reiterated the UEx’s support and commitment to the city.

The Cáceres 2031 manifesto remains open to organizations, groups, and citizens who wish to join a project that aims to place Cáceres and Extremadura at the center of European cultural life.
