Cáceres 2031 candidacy, awarded by the Regional House of Extremadura in Getafe

  • For its enhancement and projection of both the city and the region.

Cáceres 2031 candidacy for European Capital of Culture has been recognized at the annual awards ceremony of the Regional House of Extremadura in Getafe for its enhancement and projection of the capital of Cáceres and the region.

Jorge Suárez, Councilman of Culture, Education and Commerce of the City of Cáceres, was in charge of collecting this award and highlighted the pride of receiving an award that “recognizes not only the institutional effort, but a dream shared by all the institutions and citizens who promote the candidacy day by day”.

Suárez pointed out that Cáceres 2031 is “a project of transformation and international projection for the whole of Extremadura, born from the conviction that culture is the greatest tool for social cohesion”. The approach of the candidacy is based on the creation of a project of consensus and union between generations, territories, cultural agents and citizens.

During his speech, Suárez wanted to highlight the role of the Extremaduran people living outside the region, whom he defined as “a proud diaspora that keeps our traditions and our identity alive, and that acts as an essential ambassador of what we are”. In this sense, he stressed that they are also part of the momentum that sustains the candidacy.

He also expressed special thanks to the general coordinator of the Cáceres 2031 Consortium, Iris Jugo, and her team, for the “magnificent work” they are doing to build a solid, innovative and open to participation cultural proposal.

For Cáceres 2031 this recognition is “a stimulus and a commitment” to continue advancing in the candidacy for European Capital of Culture.
