Cáceres’ candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031 has been distinguished with the @ Región Digital Award in the Culture category, within the sixth edition of awards that annually recognize people, entities and initiatives that contribute to the development, innovation and projection of Extremadura.
This recognition represents an important endorsement of the work that the Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium has been developing together with institutions, cultural agents, social entities and citizens to build a solid, participatory and transformative candidacy, with the capacity to generate a positive impact throughout the region.
The granting of this award highlights a cultural proposal that aspires to turn culture into an engine of development, social cohesion and international projection for Cáceres and Extremadura. Under the concept of “transculture”, the candidacy presents culture as a space for encounter, exchange and transformation capable of connecting territories, generations, disciplines and diverse communities. A vision that understands cultural creation as a tool to overcome borders, promote dialogue and build new forms of coexistence based on diversity.
With the motto “Culture is the path”, Cáceres 2031 defends a model in which culture is a process through which links between people are strengthened, social innovation is promoted and a shared future is built for the city and the whole of Extremadura. This philosophy permeates the actions and projects that make up the candidacy, aligned with the European values of inclusion, sustainability, participation and cooperation.
The award comes at a particularly significant moment for the bid and is a stimulus to continue moving forward on the path to 2031. Likewise, it recognizes the commitment of all the people, groups, entities and institutions that actively participate in the construction of an open, inclusive candidacy with a European vocation.
The Cáceres 2031 Consortium is grateful for this distinction, which is shared with all citizens and with those who work every day to make culture a tool for social transformation, territorial development and connection with Europe.
The sixth annual @ Región Digital Awards ceremony will take place this Thursday, June 11, at the Ilunion Las Lomas Hotel in Mérida. The gala will bring together approximately 250 people representing the institutional, business, social, cultural, and tourism sectors of Extremadura. During the event, the award winners will receive the iconic sculpture “@ of Samson,” a work by the Extremaduran artist Miguel Sansón, which symbolizes these awards recognizing excellence, innovation, and contributions to the region’s development.
This recognition reinforces the conviction that “Culture is the path” and encourages us to continue building, from transcultural perspective, a candidacy capable of placing Cáceres and Extremadura at the center of European cultural dialogue in 2031.
