  • The Councilor for Tourism, Ángel Orgaz, highlights the good tourist moment of the city, which totals 172,038 travelers and 271,130 overnight stays until July

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Cáceres will host a day of activities that will allow you to discover different attractions of the city through proposals related to heritage, culture, nature, gastronomy and leisure. The program has been presented by the Councilor for Tourism, Ángel Orgaz, accompanied by the general director of Tourism of the Government of Extremadura, Óscar Mateos.

The programming seeks to show that Cáceres is much more than its Monumental City, offering visitors and citizens different ways to get to know and enjoy the city, said Orgaz.

The celebration also comes at a positive time for tourism in the city. According to data from the INE Hotel Occupancy Survey, Cáceres registered 172,038 travelers between January and July 2026, 11.8% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Overnight stays also increased, reaching 271,130, 8% more than between January and July 2025.

Growth is occurring in both the domestic and international markets. The number of travelers residing in Spain increased by 12.6%, while those residing abroad rose by 9%. Regarding overnight stays, those by residents of Spain grew by 7.8%, and those by foreign visitors by 8.7%.

“An extraordinary year with a very strong cultural program”

Orgaz has highlighted the especially intense moment that the city is experiencing, which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Cáceres as a World Heritage City and which also holds the title of European City of Sports 2026.

“We are experiencing an extraordinary year, with a very powerful cultural programme, great concerts, sporting events and proposals that allow us to offer activity throughout the year,” said the councillor.

In this sense, he highlighted that the objective is that “whoever comes to Cáceres always finds a reason to stay one more day, to return and to recommend our city.”

The councilor has also valued the collaboration between the City Council of Cáceres and the Government of Extremadura in tourism matters and has thanked the participation of the general director of Tourism in the presentation of the program.

Program

The program designed for this celebration aims to showcase precisely the diversity of resources and experiences Cáceres offers, combining heritage, culture, nature, gastronomy, and leisure.

The day will begin with a guided electric bicycle route, suitable for all ages, which will depart from the Obispo Galarza parking lot and tour the Monumental City, the Ribera del Marco and the Maltravieso Caves before returning to the historic center.

The program also includes a guided tour of the Helga de Alvear Museum, with two shifts and capacity for 50 participants, as well as two ‘Cáceres de cine’ routes through the historic center, which will allow you to discover the monumental settings that have served as locations for films and series and learn about some of the stories and curiosities linked to the filming.

Extremaduran gastronomy will also have a prominent role. One of the activities will be the tasting ‘Liquid gold, Extremadura, its olive and oil’, with a commented tasting of different Extremaduran extra virgin olive oils. The day will conclude with ‘Extremadura, naturally’, a tasting of Extremaduran products that will include the DOP Torta del Casar, Queso de la Serena, Queso Ibores and Queso de Acehúche, as well as Extremaduran Iberian wagyu and local wine.

The little ones will also have their space with workshops for children between 4 and 12 years old. Participants will be able to enjoy ‘Draw Extremadura’ or a ‘Treasure Hunt’ through the Old City, depending on their age.

In addition, the San Jorge and Golfines squares will host a circus-theater proposal on Asaco Producciones street, a theatrical and musical performance that will highlight the heritage, history, culture, nature and gastronomy of Extremadura.

The Councilor for Tourism has pointed out that the program “summarizes very well what we want Cáceres to be as a tourist destination: a city that can be visited, contemplated, listened to, savored and enjoyed.”
