  • This Thursday both entities have signed the manifesto of adhesion to the candidacy for the European Capital of Culture.
  • The project continues to garner support from different entities, both regional and international, on its way to achieving this title.

The International Classical Theater Festival of Mérida and the European project Dancing Histor(y)es have joined the support of Cáceres 2031 to be elected European Capital of Culture.

This has been ratified this Thursday at the signing of the manifesto of adhesion of the candidacy in the City Council of Caceres, in a ceremony attended by the mayor of the capital of Caceres, Rafa Mateos; the manager of the Festival de Merida, Pedro Blanco; and the president of the Tourism Cluster of Extremadura, Maria Jose Garcia Curto, entity through which the support of Dancing Histor(y)es has been harvested.

“The Festival de Teatro Clásico de Mérida is one of the most important cultural events not only in our region but also in the Spanish cultural scene and of greater international projection, so this support is very important,” said Mateos. “Also the Dancing Histor(y)es project, whose main objective is to promote archaeological sites through the performing arts and that has presence and great importance in Europe with the participation of entities from different countries such as Italy, Poland or France, which demonstrates the projection of the candidacy, “he added.

Blanco, for his part, said that the Mérida Festival is “very proud” to “go hand in hand with a project as important” as this one. On the other hand, García Curto stressed that “culture is part of the strategic planning of tourism, so we have to be united and work together to be competitive”.

It should be recalled that this same week the music festivals Extremúsika, Stone&Music and the Alcazaba Festival, as well as the city of Badajoz, also adhered to the manifesto of the Cáceres 2031 candidacy.

Cáceres continues to gather support both within and outside the region on its way to achieving the title of European Capital of Culture in 2031.
