The mayor of Cáceres, Rafa Mateos, today welcomed the authorities and attendees to the inauguration of a new edition of JATO, the great meeting that brings together the municipalities, districts and regions of the provincial territory in the capital of Cáceres.
During his speech, which was attended by the president of the Provincial Council of Cáceres, Miguel Ángel Morales, and the mayor of the Municipal Chamber of Sertã (Portugal), Carlos Alberto de Miranda, Mateos praised the value of the province and claimed pride in local identity.
Mateos began by sharing an anecdote from the day to illustrate the attractiveness of the city. “Look, first thing in the morning I was participating in a national congress of medical unions and a person told me: Cáceres is addictive. Once you try it, you can’t stop enjoying it again… I think he’s absolutely right.”
“As mayor of this wonderful city, I welcome you and above all, I want to convey to you my wish that you feel at home. May each of the corners, towns, districts, regions… that are represented here, understand that Cáceres is proud to be the capital of a province as rich as ours. And that each of you are an indispensable piece in this puzzle that combines history, traditions, incredible landscapes, unique flavors and a way of being, that of the cacereños and cacereñas, which is inimitable,” he stressed.
A showcase towards the European Capital of Culture
The mayor has described the celebration of this event in the monumental city as a great success, linking its projection with the cultural aspiration of the city. “I think it is a great success to transfer “that pride of being a town” to the capital through JATO, as a showcase of everything that our province can offer. And I also want you to know that this exhibition, which takes us to our roots but without ceasing to innovate, perfectly represents why we are worthy of the title of European Capital of Culture in 2031, for which we are already finalists. Thank you for everything you contribute in this direction,” he stated.
Likewise, Rafa Mateos has conveyed his congratulations to the organization and the provincial institution for the complexity involved in coordinating an event of this caliber. “My congratulations go from here, president, dear Miguel Ángel and to each and every one of the people behind this great event going ahead for another year. And I know that it is not easy to coordinate each step and make it coexist with other activities that are celebrated at the same time in our monumental city, which is already celebrating 40 years as a World Heritage Site. Thank you for the effort, but you already know that Cáceres is a city that does not stop for a second.”
“All that remains is for me to wish you that this event is once again a success and that we showcase all the talent that exists in Cáceres… And that we always say with pride that we are from Cáceres,” Mateos concluded.
