Cáceres raises its voice again for diversity during Pride Week

  • The central event will take place on Saturday with the Pride demonstration, which will depart at 8:00 p.m. from Avenida de España

The mayor of Cáceres, Rafa Mateos, and the councilor for Equality, Women and LGTBI, Jacobi Ceballos, presented this Monday the programming organized for LGTBI Pride Week, the first act of which was the traditional raising of the Pride flags on the main façade of the City Hall.

Mateos has stressed that Cáceres is once again experiencing “days of vindication” in which the focus is on the need to continue advancing in equality and respect for the fundamental rights of all people. In this sense, he stressed that “as long as we continue to experience episodes of discrimination, singling out or even attacks on LGTBI people, we must continue working together for a more empathetic and respectful society.”

Among them, he has highlighted the work carried out by the LGTBI municipal center “De par en par”, launched two years ago in Los Fratres, and has reiterated the commitment of the Government team to freedom and equality, recalling that the budget allocated to the LGTBI area has increased from 12,000 to 15,000 euros.

For her part, the Councillor for Equality, Women and LGTBI, Jacobi Ceballos, detailed the program planned for the coming days, thanking the associations involved in the organization for their collaboration: Fundación Triángulo, Extremadura Entiende, Diverceres and Cuidado que te veo.

Actividades

Ceballos explained that LGBTQ+ flags will fly at City Hall throughout the week, and the building will be illuminated each night with the colors of the rainbow flag. In addition, the poster announcing “Cáceres with Pride,” created by Barcelona-based illustrator and comic book author Gerard Fulcarà, known as Fulcagay, will be displayed on various billboards throughout the city and on the exterior of a Line 1 bus.

The programming will start on Wednesday with an LGTBI Experience Table at the Corral de las Cigüeñas at 8:30 p.m., a space for meeting and reflection that will feature personal testimonies. A video forum will be held on Thursday at the LGTBI municipal center “De par en par”, starting at 8:00 p.m.

The central event will take place on Saturday with the Pride demonstration, which will depart at 8:00 p.m. from Avenida de España, next to the statue of Gabriel and Galán, accompanied by a batucada. Before the start there will be fantasy makeup workshops and 800 fans, 800 handkerchiefs will be distributed, provided by the Equality Secretariat of the Government of Extremadura, and 3,000 fluorescent bracelets and 250 flags provided by the City Council.

The march will travel along Avenida de España, San Antón, San Pedro and Pintores until ending at the Plaza Mayor, where at 9:00 p.m. the institutional manifesto will be read on the occasion of LGTBI Pride Day.

Next, the Plaza Mayor will host the most festive part of the day with performances by Verónica Romero, Tóxica, Elisa Villalba, Lilith Evel, Franco Deluxe and Tito Deluxe, with JC Corrales and Laura Heristone as presenters.

Ceballos has encouraged all citizens to join in a “festive and protest” event that will once again turn the Plaza Mayor into the epicenter of the defense of equality, diversity and respect.
