  • For promoting the Extremeña Language Workshop from the Popular University, with a very positive reception from the people of Cáceres

Jacobi Ceballos, the councilor for the Popular University, has been awarded the 2026 *Lenguas d’Estremaúra* (Languages of Extremadura) Award—sponsored by OSCEC (Body for the Monitoring and Coordination of the Extremaduran Language and Culture)—for spearheading the Extremaduran Language Workshop at the Popular University. She will receive the award on the Day of the Languages of Extremadura, which is being celebrated this Saturday, the 26th, in Fuente de Cantos.

Ceballos expressed his gratitude for this award “since we came to the municipal government we have opted to recover and maintain our culture and traditions, and within this philosophy we have also opted for the Extremaduran language through the Popular University with the workshop that will be offered again this year.”

She highlighted that “in this way, we have been the first Extremadura City Council to include in its programming courses to study and learn it, with a very positive reception from the people of Cáceres, who have also understood the importance of knowing it as a way to ensure that it is not lost.”

And all of this, she added, “within our commitment to the Popular University, since so far in this term we have increased the number of places so that more citizens can participate in the workshops, where in addition to learning, they are places of meeting and coexistence.”

This commitment to the Extremaduran language, he stressed, “is also linked to the candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031, because the Extremaduran language is part of the cultural heritage of our land and its linguistic diversity, which is also integrated into our project.”

“I am very excited to receive this award, which more than for me is for this Government team that is working intensely to improve the city. And it is also an incentive to continue working on learning and promoting our traditions and our language,” Ceballos stressed.
