As part of its bid to become European Capital of Culture, Cáceres 2031 will host an open citizen workshop this Wednesday, September 24, at Palacio de la Isla. The session will introduce an innovative methodology designed to re-think how culture can drive social, economic, and environmental transformation — not only in Cáceres but across the whole of Extremadura.
Under the title “Towards an Enabling Culture”, the workshop invites participants to reflect on how culture can serve as the catalyst for a collective regenesis capable of addressing the great challenges of our time. The session will be led by international experts from Impact Hub. Originally developed in Canada, this methodology has already been successfully implemented in Galicia and Catalonia, generating significant impact.
“We want to imagine and shape together how the culture of Cáceres and Extremadura can open pathways and create tangible impact in people’s lives through the development of co-created strategies,” said Iris Jugo, General Coordinator of the Cáceres 2031 European Capital of Culture Consortium.
The workshop will revolve around key questions: How can culture be placed at the center of profound and meaningful change in our region? What local values and strengths can guide this process? And how can different sectors engage in building a more open, conscious, and participatory culture?
The gathering will bring together a wide range of voices — from performing arts, heritage, and accessibility, to academia, youth and senior groups, as well as cultural and tourism stakeholders — fostering dialogue to reimagine the cultural ecosystem of the region and lay the foundations for a shared cultural strategy.
The outcomes of the workshop will also feed into the creation of a Transformative Group, a civic platform that will carry forward the proposals developed during the session and accompany Cáceres 2031 candidacy in the months ahead.
