Cáceres 2031 Links with Artists and Rural Organisations in Valle del Jerte

  • Coordinator Iris Jugo met in Cabezuela del Valle with different cultural agents and actors from the area
  • Urban-rural talks is one of its strategic axis

Iris Jugo, general coordinator of the Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium, held a meeting with various social, political, and cultural stakeholders from Valle del Jerte, in the town of Cabezuela del Valle.

This meeting is the third talks this bid is holding in order to add projects, ideas and programs to its bid book in this race to be chosen as European Capital of Culture in 2031.

This meeting is key since one of the strategic axis of Cáceres 2031 is the close urban-rural dialogue that exists within the region of Extremadura. In fact, one-third of the cultural activities carried out within the capital’s program are expected to be in rural areas.

During the talks, Jugo announced the bid, its manifesto, and the organizations and groups that have joined, and also collected artistic proposals to be added to the bid book (the document in which the bid will be presented to the jury). These proposals may come from both individual artists and organizations seeking to carry out projects and attract artists from different parts of Europe for residencies and to rethink issues specific to their context.

“We are talking about building networks and bridges towards Europe, and every idea is welcomed, both from artists and from organisations”, she explains.

Goals such as fighting climate change and boosting territories by promoting culture are key topics for the Cáceres 2031 bid.

The next talks will take place in the rural area of La Vera in October.

In addition to dialogue, the bid champions values such as cultural diversity, transnational cooperation, sustainable development, and inclusion.
