  • The general coordinator of the Consortium, Iris Jugo, presented the general lines of the project, which will be officially registered in the next few days and whose slogan is “culture is the way”.
  • Jugo highlights the high participation of Extremadura’s cultural world, as more than 200 projects have been received.

The general coordinator of the Caceres European City of Culture Consortium, Iris Jugo, presented today to the Governing Council of the entity the ‘bidbook’, the official document in which the project with which Caceres will opt for the European Capital of Culture in 2031 is reflected.

Jugo explained that the project will be formally registered in the next few days and will then be analyzed by experts appointed by the European Commission, before whom the document will have to be defended.

In her speech, the general coordinator of Cáceres 2031 highlighted the high level of social participation in the construction process of this bidbook, since after a first round of contacts with cultural and social agents and entities from all over Extremadura, more than 200 projects have been received. These projects have served as the basis for the design of an ambitious and contemporary cultural proposal with a strong European dimension.

Cáceres’ candidacy is based on the concept of “transculture”, understood as “a contemporary metaphor for Europe” that pays homage to traditional transhumance: “we move together, we take care of the road and share resources” in what the coordinator has called “the Cultural Transhumance of the 21st century”. The slogan of the candidacy is “Culture is the way”.

On the other hand, Jugo recalled that among the strengths of Cáceres 2031 are the fact that it is a project supported by all of Extremadura and that it has achieved the unanimous consensus of the parties and institutions.

Among the achievements that have already been reached in this process, he highlighted the approval of the Cultural Strategy of Caceres, the incorporation of the city to the main European cultural networks and the connection with numerous cities that have been or are going to be European Capitals of Culture. He also recalled the events that have been held in the city, such as ‘Hojas Blancas’, ‘Periscopio Cáceres’, ‘POLINIZA Cáceres 2031’ and ‘En torno a la novena de Beethoven: reconstruyendo la humanidad’.
