Cáceres 2031 registers the bidbook for its candidacy

  • The city has more than 120 endorsements from city councils, festivals and various regional and international organizations.

Cáceres 2031 has taken a decisive step on its way to becoming Cáceres has taken a decisive step on its way to becoming European Capital of Culture 2031 with the official delivery of the ‘Bidbook’, the strategic document that sets out the city’s cultural project and its European vision.

The Cáceres 2031 candidacy reaches this key phase backed by a broad and plural institutional, social, cultural and academic support. In total, the candidacy already has 129 endorsements to date.

Among the participating entities are more than fifty municipalities in the region, which account for more than 50% of the population, as well as various institutions, associations and Casas de Extremadura abroad.

The candidacy also has the support of the main cultural festivals of reference in the region, museums, foundations, conservatories, orchestras and entities in the field of contemporary creation and heritage, consolidating Caceres as an active and diverse cultural node. In addition, professional associations, social and economic entities, chambers of commerce, the media and third-sector organizations underscore the social and transformative impact of the project.

The European and international character of Cáceres 2031 is reinforced by the adhesion of cities, universities and cultural entities from countries such as France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Cyprus, Chile and the Czech Republic, among others, as well as by the collaboration of experts and professionals from the academic and cultural fields, among others.

The mayor of Cáceres, Rafa Mateos, stressed that it is “an ambitious project, but at the same time mature that reflects the sensitivity of the entire society of Cáceres and the entire society of Extremadura”. In this sense, he emphasized that the city’s proposal “takes culture as a transforming element and as a fundamental pillar of the 21st century society”.

For her part, Iris Jugo, general coordinator of the Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium, highlighted the value of a document that is “the result of teamwork, of a wonderful team that has been committed to giving a voice to these projects that exist and that the region and the city demand, to dialogue with what Europe has and can offer us and vice versa”. “We are sure that culture is the way,” he added.

With the delivery of the ‘Bidbook’ and the support of these adhesions, Cáceres 2031 reaffirms its commitment to culture as a driver of social cohesion of the city and the region and faces with enthusiasm and responsibility the next stages of the process to become European Capital of Culture.
