The Office of Cultural Activation and Citizen Participation of Cáceres 2031 takes its first steps, thus promoting one of the tools foreseen in the development of Cáceres’ candidacy for the European Capital of Culture. In this way, structures that transcend the European evaluation calendar are anticipated. The creation of the Office responds to a demand from the cultural sector of Cáceres and Extremadura, and represents a tangible legacy of the Cáceres 2031 process in the city.
Specifically, the Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium has launched on the Public Sector Procurement Platform the tender for the specialized technical assistance service for the implementation and development of the Office of Cultural Activation and Citizen Participation of the project “Cáceres, European Capital of Culture 2031”. The announcement was formalized on February 12, 2026 and establishes an initial execution period of one year in the city of Cáceres.
The purpose of the contract is to provide the Cáceres 2031 project with a technical structure to promote cultural activation and citizen participation, consolidating coordination mechanisms with the local cultural sector. The Office will act as an operational instrument to channel proposals, accompany initiatives and strengthen the involvement of cultural agents, social entities and citizens in the development of the program linked to the candidacy.
The general coordinator of the Cáceres 2031 Consortium, Iris Jugo, recalled that both the need and the name of this office arose “in a meeting with cultural agents”. In practice, the Cultural Activation Office will unify in a single point the cultural offerings of the City of Cáceres, the Regional Government of Extremadura and the Provincial Councils. In addition, its mission will be to support those who want to promote cultural management projects and will also be a “window of union with the citizenship”.
“It is a long-term project, symbolizes the union of many forces, the illusion of many people and entities, and the realization of a future I believe that culturally, artistically and humanly, more prepared and more cohesive in Extremadura,” added Jugo.
