- Highlights include presentations by authors such as Javier Cercas, Miguel Ángel Aguilar, Alicia Vallina and Isabel San Sebastián
The Cáceres Book Fair returns this year with an expanded programme, greater involvement from the publishing sector and a new organisational model spearheaded directly by the City Council, which has taken over its management with the aim of strengthening and improving this flagship cultural event in the city.
The 2026 edition will feature a total of 24 literary events, marking a significant increase on previous years, as well as a supporting programme that includes workshops, children’s activities, storytelling sessions and cultural events for all ages.
One of the main new features is that, for the first time, publishers will have a direct presence at the stalls, alongside booksellers. In this regard, the Extremadura Publishers’ Platform and the publisher La Moderna will be taking part with their own stands. Furthermore, ONCE is also joining the fair for the first time, enhancing its diversity and inclusive nature.
Another important new feature will be the participation of the Ateneo de Cáceres, which will present its annual magazine at the fair.
In total, the fair will feature 30 booth modules and 19 exhibitors, creating a dynamic space where bookstores and publishers will coexist. The budget allocated to this edition amounts to 45,000 euros.
The program will run from April 21 to May 2 and will include prominent presentations, author talks, educational activities, and cultural events. Highlights include an intergenerational book club discussion on Pascual Duarte’s Family, presentations by authors such as Javier Cercas, Miguel Ángel Aguilar, Alicia Vallina, and Isabel San Sebastián, as well as educational activities, children’s workshops, poetry readings, and musical performances.
ABOUT IFECA
The Councillor for Culture and Commerce, Jorge Suárez, has given a very positive assessment of the development of this edition, emphasizing that “the Book Fair has not only not been in danger, but has been strengthened and improved, with more content, more funding and more opportunities for the sector.”
In this regard, he explained that the City Council has taken over the direct organization of the fair following problems detected at the Cáceres Trade Fair Institution (IFECA), which is currently undergoing a management and financial audit. He also noted that its director has been dismissed and that efforts are underway to ensure the institution’s future viability.
The councilor conveyed a message of reassurance, stating that “the major events that IFECA has been managing, such as ‘Extregusta’ or ‘Cáceres de Boda’, will continue to be held and will do so with the same line of improvement that we are applying to the Book Fair.”
Finally, he highlighted the institutional collaboration that is making this edition possible, thanking the Junta de Extremadura and the Diputación de Cáceres for their support in continuing to promote quality cultural events in the city.
