Two members of the Cáceres 2031 team recently participated in the CAE Spain Hub meeting of Culture Action Europe, one of Europe’s leading cultural networks, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This platform brings together organizations, artists, activists, academics, cultural networks, and public policymakers from various countries, and promotes dialogue between the cultural sector and European institutions.
Participation in this event is part of Cáceres 2031’s internationalization and European outreach efforts, within the framework of its bid to become European Capital of Culture. Culture Action Europe will be a particularly important forum for developing projects that will be fundamental to Cáceres’ cultural programming in 2031.
The Las Palmas meeting was organized through the CAE Spain Hub for the Southwest Region, which brings together cultural agents from Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Spain. Its main objective was to bring major European cultural debates closer to local contexts, generating more concrete conversations connected to the territories.
During the visit, the Cáceres 2031 team gained a better understanding of how this network operates, its collaborative methods, and its “BEYOND Satellites,” conceived as geographic hubs for meetings and exchanges. Furthermore, the possibility of hosting a future Culture Action Europe meeting in Cáceres was raised, a proposal that was received with great interest.
One of the priority objectives of the trip was to establish contact with Malta, especially with representatives of Victoria, Gozo, a city also a candidate for European Capital of Culture 2031. In this context, an initial contact was made with the representative of the Maltese candidacy team, who facilitated contact with her artistic team.
Following this meeting, Cáceres 2031 will continue the contacts initiated with representatives of Malta at the next European meeting planned in Cyprus, with the aim of continuing to explore common interests and opening avenues for collaboration.
This visit reinforces Cáceres 2031’s commitment to an open, European and collaborative candidacy, capable of learning from other territories, sharing experiences and building lasting cultural alliances.
