- The proposal, the result of an artistic residency promoted by one of the flagship programs of the bid for European Capital of Culture 2031, can be seen this Thursday and Friday at the Balbos Forum and Aldea Moret respectively.
The Mudarte Association presents “CALLA”, a multidisciplinary scenic proposal that was born as a result of an artistic residency developed within Rural Labs, one of the flagship programs of the Cáceres 2031 bid for European Capital of Culture. The show can be seen this Thursday, at 11:00 p.m., at the Balbos Forum, and on Friday, at 10:00 p.m., at the Mudarte headquarters, in Aldea Moret.
The residency brought together artists from Spain and France in Cáceres for a process of research, shared living, and collective creation. The artist in residence was Séverine Berthias, from Blois, France, accompanied by Javier Nosa and Camille Fiot from Compagnie Des Cousus; Fabián Suárez, Jessica Laures, and Andrea Villarreal from Taller de Cumbia de París; and Miguel Moreno, Catherine Díaz, and Alaia Moreno from Asociación Mudarte.
As a result of this joint work, “CALLA” was born, a proposal that brings together theater, music, dance and plastic arts to explore the cultural links between Africa, Spain and America. Through movement, sound and visual creation, the work proposes a journey through centuries of encounters, exchanges and mixtures that have shaped an extraordinary cultural and musical legacy.
Culture on the periphery
This residency is part of Rural Labs, a Cáceres 2031 program designed to promote contemporary creation processes through artistic residencies developed in collaboration with cultural agents in the territory. The initiative encourages exchange between local and international artists and promotes projects that generate a cultural and social impact in the places where they are developed.
The Mudarte Association carries out its activity in Aldea Moret, a neighborhood with important challenges where access to culture and citizen participation take on a particularly relevant role. With initiatives like this, Cáceres 2031 is committed to decentralizing cultural programming and making artistic creation reach all neighborhoods of the city, demonstrating that culture can become a tool of cohesion, inclusion and social transformation.
Active since 2019, the Mudarte Association is a socio-cultural space dedicated to artistic training, creation, production, and research, with a focus on Afro-descendant arts. Through collective cultural management, it connects artists, creators, cultural managers, organizations, and the public, offering a space for training, rehearsal, creation, and encounter. In addition to fostering artistic research, it develops its own productions and promotes activities open to the community, understanding art as a tool to promote equality, diversity, and free expression.
After the Mudarte experience, Rural Labs will continue its journey with residencies in La Sindicalista and Ras de Terra, consolidating a network of artistic experimentation spaces that constitute one of the most innovative axes of Cáceres’ bid for European Capital of Culture.
