The Royal Carriage will arrive in Cáceres this Thursday 24th, an initiative of the Royal Theatre that will bring opera and performing arts to the Plaza Mayor at 8:30 pm, a proposal for all audiences that seeks to bring opera closer to citizens for free.

The Councilor for Culture, Jorge Suárez, has presented this initiative accompanied by Lourdes Sánchez-Ocaña, representing the Teatro Real, and the director in Cáceres of the Renta 4 office, Carlos Gutiérrez, “which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary, just like Cáceres, which is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its declaration as a World Heritage Site.”

Suárez highlighted that “it is one of the events that marks our calendar and that it is another example that this city is betting on culture as a means of transforming society. It is trying to bring all those initiatives that we see on television or that are far from our streets, to be able to bring them to Cáceres and make them meeting points and to show the talents that exist both inside and outside the city. And above all on the path to the European Capital of Culture 2031, as finalists that we are.”

We frame it in the “Transcultura” project, with which Cáceres competes for the European Capital of Culture 2031, he added, “that way of transmitting talent, our culture and above all our values. We are a peripheral city, and what we have to do is make ourselves known, and that we work here for and by culture.”

And it is also a very special year because it is our birthday, like Renta 4, “in 1986 UNESCO gave us the title, and uniting culture and heritage is one of the experiences that every Cáceres has to live.”

He recalled that the project began in 2021, “and in 2023 we already had it in Cáceres. It aims to bring theater, opera and the performing arts closer to the citizens of Cáceres, because we want a culture that is open to everyone and that everyone has the opportunity to experience it, just as we can do anywhere else in Spain and abroad.”

“The Plaza Mayor is one of the great meeting points of the city and where the people of Cáceres pass through, as well as thousands of visitors every year,” he stressed, “and being able to turn it into a stage for opera, means bringing culture to the very heart of the city and above all because the young talents of the Teatro Real will have the leading role thanks to the Friends of the Teatro Real Foundation, which gives professionalism to these young people who are working there. The performers come from the Crescendo program, an initiative intended to support the artistic and professional development of young singers, pianists and stage management assistants”.

“I encourage the people of Cáceres and visitors to come to the Plaza Mayor, to the front of the Town Hall, to enjoy this event. And I want to thank you for having come to Cáceres to bring that little bit of one of the most emblematic places such as the Teatro Real, and that in this way we can enjoy it,” Suárez highlighted.

Sánchez-Ocaña has pointed out that it is one of the most beloved projects, a traveling stage that began its journey in 2021, but that has achieved great success and is in high demand, which has led us to visit more than 140 locations. It is the great agent of diffusion of the lyric, the stage is an exact replica of the mouth of the stage of the Teatro Real, because it has a vocation, to bring the Real closer to all citizens, to break the physical walls of the building in Madrid, but it is everyone’s theater.

And above all, she added, “that they can discover young talents. The Crescendo program has been running for six editions, it’s international, and 120 young people from more than 20 nationalities have participated. And all of them, despite their youth, have overflowing talent, and some are already performing on major Spanish and international stages.”

“You don’t have to be afraid of opera, it is for all audiences, and that is why I encourage everyone not to miss it,” she stated.

Gutiérrez thanked the City Council for its willingness to make it a reality, and explained that “the motto of this 40th anniversary is ’40 years at your side’, with the aim of bringing the world of investments closer to citizens.” And we have understood that this year excellence had to be applied not only to the markets but to society and that is why we have decided to share it for free with all Cáceres citizens through this event. “It is a very special gift for the city.”
