Caceres 2031 distributes more than 1,100 plants to reinforce the urban biodiversity of the city

  • The ‘Poliniza Cáceres 2031’ project involves citizens to recover wild pollinators with lavender, thyme and rosemary
  • They have been distributed during the month of December to citizens, educational centers and different associations.
  • The pots will be replanted in a joint garden in March.

Cáceres 2031 has already distributed more than 1100 plants that are part of its project ‘Poliniza Cáceres 2031’, which involves the citizens of Cáceres in the recovery of wild pollinators to strengthen the urban biodiversity of the city.

During the month of December, pots of different aromatic plants – thyme, rosemary and lavender – have been delivered for the people of Cáceres to take care of until March, the spring, when they will be replanted in the gardens of the capital.

Specifically, the distribution took place on three Wednesdays at the University of Extremadura, in the mornings, and at the Palacio de la Isla, in the afternoons. Thus, general citizens, students, educational centers and different associations and groups have participated in this initiative promoted by Cáceres 2031 together with the EU Green Alliance.

“The goal of this project is very simple but very ambitious at the same time. We lend a thousand plants to the citizens of Cáceres, they take care of them during the winter, and when it is time for planting, we will take these plants to create these pollination gardens with plants from our land”, explains Jesús Díaz, professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Extremadura (UEx) and scientific leader of the initiative.

With this project, Cáceres 2031 involves the population in one of its strategic axes, such as the culture of care, in addition to promoting the environment and green spaces in the city.
