- The initiative, promoted by Cáceres 2031, the University of Extremadura and the EU GREEN Alliance, concludes after months of work to promote urban biodiversity and environmental awareness
The Polliniza Cáceres 2031 project culminated this Friday with a collective planting with the participation of citizens, putting the finishing touch to an initiative jointly promoted by Cáceres 2031, the University of Extremadura (UEx) and the European Alliance EU GREEN, with the aim of promoting urban biodiversity, promoting the presence of pollinating insects and raising awareness among the population about the importance of sustainable ecosystems.
The day has served to culminate a project that, in recent months, has invited the people of Cáceres to monitor different species of pollinating plants, such as rosemary, thyme and lavender. Through this initiative, a culture of care and environmental co-responsibility has been promoted, while raising awareness about the fundamental role that these species play in the conservation of biodiversity and in maintaining healthier and more sustainable urban ecosystems.
Collaboration to care for the environment
The representative of the EU GREEN Alliance and professor at the University of Extremadura, Jesús Díaz, highlighted during the event the importance of involving citizens in this type of initiatives, underlining that the protection of biodiversity requires collaboration between institutions, the scientific community and civil society.
Since Cáceres 2031, the development of the project and the response obtained from citizens have been highly valued, highlighting the role that these types of actions play in the construction of a more sustainable, resilient city committed to the urban and environmental development objectives that inspire the city’s candidacy and strategy.
The organization wanted to especially thank the collaboration of the Gardening service workers of the Cáceres City Council, whose involvement has been fundamental for the development of the plantation, as well as the participation of the ESCALA Gardening Project of the Popular University, which has joined the activity, contributing with its experience and work in the conditioning and improvement of this green space.
This collective planting concludes Poliniza Cáceres 2031, an initiative that leaves a tangible legacy in the city and reinforces the shared commitment to sustainability, citizen participation and the protection of biodiversity as key elements for the future of Cáceres.
