- The idb participates in a work day held within the framework of the Periferias Festival and the IX Culture and Ruralities Forum, focused on cultural cooperation, community participation and the construction of networks between Spain and Portugal
Cáceres 2031 participated on August 8 in the Meeting of the Network of Festivals and Cultural Managers of the International Tagus, a day of exchange and work between cultural agents from Spain and Portugal held within the framework of Peripheries International Film Festival (ma) of Marvão and/and Valencia de Alcántara and the IX Culture and Ruralities Forum.
Represented by Laura García Cáceres, a member of the candidacy’s technical team, Cáceres 2031 joined a meeting focused on issues closely linked to the European Capital of Culture project, such as territorial cooperation, culture in rural areas, community participation and the creation of cultural networks capable of being maintained over time.
The day allowed to learn about experiences of different projects on both sides of the border and share reflections on how to strengthen a cultural fabric that already exists and is deeply rooted in the territory. Among the main ideas, he highlighted the need to recognize the rural environment as a producer of culture, generate structures that allow them to consolidate their initiatives and move from competition to models based on cooperation and the exchange of resources and knowledge.
The meeting also focused on participation that goes beyond consultation and gives communities real capacity for intervention, as well as on the value of trust, links and shared experiences to build lasting cultural networks. A reflection that can be summarized in one of the ideas that emerged during the day: networks are built by doing things together.
Participation also allowed Cáceres 2031 to strengthen ties with artists and cultural agents from the cross-border territory and continue delving into a shared cultural space that surpasses the administrative border between Spain and Portugal.
The day continued with the programming of the Periferias Festival, a traveling project that connects culture, landscape and community through different locations around Marvão and Valencia de Alcántara, showing the potential of cultural creation to generate encounters and new dynamics in the territory.
