Cáceres 2031 Works with ONCE to Promote Inclusiveness

  • The organization joins the bid and is already collaborating to develop actions that facilitate access to culture for all

Cáceres 2031 is already working with ONCE to promote and expand accessibility and inclusion in the activities and events framed within the city’s bid for European Capital of Culture, for both spectators and creators. The goal is for this commitment to accessibility to extend to all cultural events held in Extremadura. This is what both entities have agreed upon in a commitment that strengthens the projection of Cáceres 2031.

“Cáceres 2031 is committed to an inclusive and accessible culture as one of its pillars. And we cannot think of an inclusive culture without partners and experts, such as ONCE in this case, which has supported us from the very beginning,” explained Iris Jugo, general coordinator of the Cáceres 2031 Consortium. “Cultural rights and cultural access must be universal, and this is reflected in our bid,” she emphasized. This will turn out into joint work “so that anyone can participate in the Cáceres 2031 project.”

For her part, the director of ONCE in the province of Cáceres, Isabel Góngora, stated that “culture cannot be understood without it being accessible to anyone with any kind of disability.” For this reason, Góngora stated that “we feel fortunate that they count on us to advise and be part of this bid, which is going to become a reality.”

This collaboration between the bid and the organization has been in the making for several months, and the formal signing of ONCE’s endorsement further reinforces Cáceres 2031’s commitment to a universal culture.

As part of this collaboration, Iris Jugo held a meeting this week with ONCE volunteers to discuss the importance of promoting accessible culture for all. During this meeting, they were provided with tools to achieve a more fulfilling experience in any cultural event. These volunteers have also joined Cáceres 2031 as volunteers.

Furthermore, the Cáceres 2031 coordinator has encouraged other entities specializing in accessibility and inclusiveness to join the project, both to enable the public with any disability to enjoy cultural activities and to include activities led by people with disabilities.
