Cáceres organises an open day at the Municipal Archive on Tuesday, June 9th

  • To celebrate International Archives Week 2026, there will also be a guided tour

The City Council of Cáceres joins the celebration of the International Archives Week 2026, which takes place from June 8 to 12, with an open day at the Municipal Historical Archive, located in the Palacio de la Isla, on Tuesday, June 9, in which a guided tour of its facilities will be carried out.

The Councilor for Culture, Jorge Suárez, recalled that “on June 9, International Archives Day is celebrated to commemorate the creation in 1948 (sponsored by UNESCO) of the International Council of Archives (CIA), an international non-governmental organization aimed at promoting the efficient management and use of archival documents, as well as the preservation of the archival heritage of humanity.”

This year’s theme, he detailed, is #Archives for Justice, “which reflects a shared recognition of the fundamental role that archives play in supporting justice, rights and democratic societies.”

Suárez has encouraged the people of Cáceres to participate in this commemoration “in the municipal archive we find documents that allow us to know the history and evolution of the city. The Fueros of Cáceres are the main document kept in the City Hall. In them, is the origin of the medieval city, and from them the regional law of the people of Cáceres is projected for many centuries. This guided tour is a good opportunity to learn about the rich documentary heritage of the Cáceres City Council.”

To visit it is necessary to reserve a place by emailing: archivo.historico@ayto-caceres.es
