- The educational program of the bid offers three projects aimed at educational centers so that students actively participate in the construction of the European Capital of Culture 2031
The Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium has opened the call for Generation 31, the educational program of the candidacy that invites schools, secondary schools and adults to be part of the path towards 2031 through cultural experiences developed in the classrooms themselves.
The initiative was born with the purpose of bringing artistic creation closer to students and making the educational community the protagonist of the bid. As the project progresses, students and teachers will be able to contribute ideas, share experiences and help imagine the cultural programming that aspires to represent Cáceres as the European Capital of Culture.
The call includes three projects adapted to different educational stages.
The projects
Artists Mediators proposes meetings between students and artists from different disciplines to address issues related to heritage, sustainability, coexistence or European identity from artistic creation. Each center will be able to choose the proposal that best suits its educational project from a catalog of professionals. The sessions will be held between September and the end of November and the Consortium will fully cover the cost of the artists’ fees.
The second proposal is Cantata Europa, a musical project aimed at Primary Education centers that will culminate with a large joint concert at the end of the course. The students will work on a common work during Music classes with free teaching materials and permanent support for the teachers.
The third project, Transcultural Footprints, invites schools to create a collaborative mural with a professional artist. Each mural will be designed jointly with the school community to leave a lasting mark of their participation in the competition. This year, two schools will be selected, and their projects will be developed between September and November.
The new call comes after the experience developed this year with the first edition of Artists Mediators, in which four educational centers in Cáceres participated. For several months, the students worked with artists to reflect on the city and propose creative proposals linked to urban space, heritage or community life. This June, students publicly presented their projects, demonstrating how art can become a tool to think about the present and imagine the future of Cáceres.
The Councilor for Culture of the Cáceres City Council, Jorge Suárez, who has presented this program at the School Council, has encouraged educational centers to join this new edition of Generación 31: “We believe that the candidacy is also built from the classrooms. That is why we invite educational centers to participate in three projects that bring culture closer to students through music, artistic creation and work with professional artists,” he noted.
Registration and entry are handled via email at hello@caceres2031.org. To participate in Cantata Europa, registrations should be sent to jlporrasb01@educarex.es.
With Generación 31, Cáceres 2031 continues to expand the participation of the educational community in the candidacy, convinced that classrooms are one of the best places to build the cultural project that wants to represent the city in Europe.
