- During his speech after receiving the Max Award for Lifetime Achievement
The director of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival, Jesús Cimarro, has publicly expressed his support for the candidacy of Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 during the celebration of the gala of the XXIX Max Awards for the Performing Arts, which took place this Monday at the Roman Theatre of Mérida.
During his speech at one of the most important events in Spanish performing arts, Cimarro conveyed his support for the cultural project led by the Cáceres candidacy, thus joining the numerous voices in the cultural field that support the city’s aspiration to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
The Max Awards gala, organized by the SGAE Foundation and held for the first time at the Roman Theatre of Mérida, brought together leading figures from the world of culture and the performing arts from across Spain. This year, Jesús Cimarro received the Max Honorary Award, becoming the first theatre producer to receive this recognition, which honors a distinguished career in the Spanish cultural sector.
Cáceres 2031 has expressed its gratitude for this support, which strengthens the project’s scope and highlights the capacity of Extremadura’s culture to work together on a shared and open bid.
